Theory Test

The Theory Test consists of two elements; Multi Choice Question & Answers and Hazard Perception. A practical test CANNOT be booked without the theory pass certificate number.

Multi Choice Questions & Answers

This part consists of 50 questions, of which you need to get 43+ to pass. You’re allowed 57 minutes to complete the test.

There are various ways of preparing for the test, and many different resource materials to choose from. The DSA produce their own publications and contain the complete bank of questions that the test uses along with, of course, the answers. There are others to suit different pockets; the choice is yours.

There are CD-ROM’s available, I personally prefer this method, as it closely follows the format that you will use on test.

Hazard Perception Test

This part of the test involves watching video clips showing the drivers eye view of a typical piece of road. Each clip last about 1 minute, and contains numerous hazards of which 1 or possibly 2 will DEVELOP. You need to identify these developing hazards as soon as you see them by clicking on the mouse.

I would again recommend the CD-ROM package to prepare for the test if you have access to a computer.

I would normally expect the pupils to prepare themselves to take the Theory Test. In that way you will not be using valuable time spent in the car unnecessarily, thus enabling you to spend more time behind the wheel. However, I would still be on hand to sort out any problems you may experience. Hazard awareness is part of your practical training and will be covered in depth in any case.
